Key conclusion in the original

One return overnight service daily was announced between Fukuoka and Kagoshima from September 1, 2026.

From Tenjin it departed 11:20 p.m. and reached Kagoshima-Chuo at 6:52 a.m. the next day. In reverse, Kagoshima-Chuo departure was 11:20 p.m., reaching Fukuoka Airport International at 5:22 a.m. and Hakata Bus Terminal at 5:42 a.m.

Adult one-way fares were JPY 8,500 or JPY 8,000 online. With four-abreast seats, judge more than price: how much sleeping comfort you are willing to trade for combining an overnight stay and travel. That was the main comparison.

The timetable gave about seven and a half hours from Tenjin to Kagoshima-Chuo. Boarding at Kosoku Kiyama or Kurume Interchange occurred after midnight; when booking, select the date before that midnight boundary, not the arrival date.

Kagoshima to Fukuoka timetable

Stop Departure/arrival
Kagoshima-Chuo Station Departs 23:20
Kosoku Chosa Departs 23:47
Kagoshima Airport Minami Departs 23:59
Kurume Interchange Arrives 04:49

Fukuoka Airport International Arrives 05:22
Hakata Bus Terminal Arrives 05:42
Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal Arrives 05:56

The Kagoshima departure stopped at Fukuoka Airport International, but road/weather delays meant allowing substantial time before a morning flight.

Important: The Kagoshima-origin service called at Kagoshima Airport Minami but did not board at Kagoshima Airport’s passenger terminal. Do not confuse the stops.

Fares and reservations

Category Standard Web
Adult one way JPY 8,500 JPY 8,000
Child / published adult disability-discount category JPY 4,250 JPY 4,000
Published child disability-discount category JPY 2,130 JPY 2,000

The web fare saved JPY 500 against the standard fare. There was no return, transfer, or multi-ticket discount, and neither SUNQ Pass nor ALL KYUSHU PASS applied to the overnight service. Disability-discount documentation eligibility is not established by the original fare table.

Bookings were through highwaybus.com, phone, or designated counters. The later Nishitetsu operating page gave the initial opening as August 14, 2026, noon, with subsequent travel generally bookable from 8 a.m. on the same calendar date one month before travel.

Why booking-start notices differed
The July 15 joint release said August 1 at 8 a.m., but the later operating page said August 14 at noon. The original followed the more recent operational page; no official reason for the change had been separately announced.

Seats and onboard facilities

  • Four-abreast seating, 36 total
  • 14 women-only seats
  • Onboard toilet
  • Partition curtains between seats
  • Power outlet or USB charging
  • Wi-Fi

Curtains did not make this a three-abreast independent-seat or sleeper bus. Consider spacing and sleep first. Vehicle maintenance or substitution could change the actual equipment.

Who might find it suitable?

Potential fit

  • Spending the evening in Fukuoka, then starting Kagoshima in the morning
  • Combining a hotel night with travel time
  • Being able to sleep reasonably in four-abreast seats
  • Needing to travel after the last Shinkansen

Reasons for caution

  • Discomfort in four-abreast seats over long hours
  • Important or tight flight reservations soon after arrival
  • Planning to cover travel with a pass
  • Prioritizing sleep quality and exact arrival

EDITOR'S NOTE

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s analysis and advice

The core value was not simply cheap travel: even the web fare was JPY 8,000 and seats four abreast. Rather, late-evening departure and early-morning arrival allowed overnight time and intercity movement to be combined. That was its main appeal.

It could suit dinner in Fukuoka before starting Kagoshima next morning, or finishing Kagoshima then heading toward Fukuoka Airport International.

For saving a hotel night and gaining morning time, it was a candidate. If comfortable sleep and exact arrival mattered more, the original favored Shinkansen or daytime travel.
