Onna is the resort area along Route 58 as you travel from Naha Airport toward Churaumi Aquarium.
The Halekulani resort, also well known in Hawaii, draws many visitors to the area.

There were plenty of restaurants and izakaya nearby but fewer distinctive cafés, so we tried hale‘aina HOA, which also looked promising for photographs.

Bold, colorful artwork catches the eye right from the entrance.

Fitting its Hawaiian style, an English menu was displayed outside during this visit.
Garlic shrimp, ahi poke, and other Hawaiian dishes seemed to be the focus.

Inside, white and pastel colors create a cheerful, compact setting.

Original merchandise was also on sale.

hale‘aina HOA is a Hawaiian all-day café and diner serving from morning through evening. It sits along Route 58, Okinawa’s north–south road, in the Onna resort area of Kunigami District, surrounded by upscale hotels and holiday accommodation.

The artwork on some interior walls and the outside fence, also used on cups and T-shirts, is by Hawaii-based artist Kim Sielbeck.

The menu centers on hibachi-style island barbecue plates, with Hawaiian favorites such as garlic shrimp, loco moco, and poke. Breakfast options include simple meat-and-egg plates and French toast. Coffee choices featured Hawaiian Kona coffee and Okinawa’s 35 COFFEE, which supports coral-conservation activities.

A salad described in the original as ‘Asahi’ also caught my eye; the precise dish name is unclear in the source.
The original calls it a healthy ‘superfood,’ a promotional description rather than a verified nutrition claim here.

There was a broad choice of drinks as well.

We ordered a hibachi combo, named for Hawaiian island-style barbecue,
and garlic shrimp.

The combo contained three kinds of meat with barbecue sauce and felt substantial.

The garlic shrimp was generous too, with seven plump shrimp.

I tried to photograph the meal against the attractive wall, with less success than hoped.
The food was very enjoyable.
It was an easy, straightforward meal.

Afterward, we took a coffee to go and headed back out to the colorful entrance.
Even the takeaway cup was charming.

hale‘aina HOA brings a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Okinawa.
Staying at nearby Halekulani and stopping here for coffee could almost make a social-media photo look as though you were in Hawaii.
