Quiet in Susukino: ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino

Arriving in Hokkaido brought us to New Chitose Airport (ๆ–ฐๅƒๆญณ็ฉบๆธฏ).

The source journey took about an hour and a half by bus, compared with around 35 minutes to Sapporo on the Rapid Airport train, then priced at JPY 1,150. We chose the train even though it cost about JPY 400 more. These are the original tripโ€™s fares and timings.

ย

ย

The Rapid Airport looked like a train battling through a snow country.

ย

ย

ย

ย

ย

Deep snow was piled on both sides of the steps.

It looked as though a sled would be great fun hereโ€ฆ

ย

Susukino Station (ใ™ใ™ใใฎ) is about 15 minutes from Sapporo Station on foot, but slippery streets made our walk take around 20 minutes.

ย

ย

ย

The Nikka man is one of Susukinoโ€™s familiar sights.

That figure is a recurring face of Nikka Whisky.

ย

ย

ย

ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino is one block behind the Nikka sign.

Susukino is a nightlife district with many love hotels, but the familiar ANA airline name made this hotel feel reassuring to the original reviewer.

ย

ย

ย

The check-in counter was tidy too.

At the time of this pandemic-era stay, temperature scanners and alcohol spray were placed around the hotel as infection-control measures.

ย

ย

ย

The roomโ€™s fresh lime-colored interior was brighter than expected.

A combined humidifier and air purifier was welcome in the dry winter air.

ย

ย

A kettle, basic coffee, and green tea were provided.

ย

ย

ย

ย

The bathroom combined the bathtub and toilet in one compact unit.

That was understandable at this price level.

The amenities were basic, lower-priced products.

The more elaborate items, such as bath additives the reviewer had seen at ANA Crowne hotels, were not provided here.

ย

ย

The next morning, we went to the restaurant for breakfast.

ย

ย

ย

ย

ย

It was a buffet with a fairly broad selection.

The pre-portioned seasoned nori was rather more than necessary; a smaller amount would have been enough.

ย

ย

ย

A live kitchen prepared omelets, scrambled eggs, seafood rice bowls, jingisukan grilled lamb, pork rice bowls, Asahikawa-style ramen, udon, miso soup, and fish after ordering.

ย

Those freshly prepared dishes were particularly good.

ย

ย

After sleeping well and eating our fill, we stepped out to collect a rental car and found heavy snow falling.

ย

The original reviewer generally found more affordable weekday hotels around Susukino than around Sapporo Station.

Its nightlife reputation may give some visitors pause, but there are plenty of places to eat and it is useful for staying out later.

ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino was quiet and clean during this stay, and the reviewer would recommend considering it.
