Leaving Luggage in Hakata for an Overnight Trip: Crosta Charges by Calendar Day

Originally published · Korean source last modified

If you leave a suitcase in Hakata for a night elsewhere nearby, budget for two days of storage. The source records Crosta at JR Hakata Station charging JPY 1,000 per item per day, with the day changing at midnight. Collecting one item the next day costs JPY 2,000 for two days even when fewer than 24 hours have passed.

Check luggage arrangements even if you will return to the same hotel

After checking out of a Fukuoka hotel, you might want to leave a large suitcase while spending a night in Kitakyushu or another nearby destination, then return to the same hotel. A new reservation does not automatically mean the hotel will store luggage between stays. Ask about the dates, number of bags, and collection time. If storage is unavailable, compare paid station storage as an alternative.

Crosta Hakata’s temporary storage is a service for collecting your luggage from the same branch where you left it. Items are accepted at the counter without an advance reservation. However, the branch may stop accepting items when full. No reservation requirement does not guarantee a space.

Even collection the following morning means a two-day charge

The Hakata branch’s terms define the daily boundary, regardless of elapsed hours, as midnight, 12 a.m. An item left this afternoon and collected tomorrow morning therefore crosses the date boundary and counts as two days.

Hakata temporary-storage calculation examples: one item
Drop-off and collection timing Price
Collection during opening hours on the same day 1 day × JPY 1,000 = JPY 1,000
Collection during opening hours the next day 2 days × JPY 1,000 = JPY 2,000

These examples apply the official terms’ per-day, per-item basis. A small bag placed on a suitcase or tied to its handle counts as a separate item. Do not assume attached bags together count as one. The maximum storage period is 30 days, but that duration is not included in the basic daily fee.

Plan to return to Hakata comfortably before 8 p.m.

The counter is on JR Hakata Station’s second floor, outside the Shinkansen Hikari Square ticket gates. Recorded hours are 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Arrival at the station is not the same as reaching the collection counter, so allow time to get off the train, walk, and complete the collection when choosing your return service.

After 8 p.m., collection moves to after 9 a.m. the following day, with additional charges according to the number of items. Take particular care if you need the bags for a flight or onward train that day. Present the storage receipt when collecting; if it is lost, documents to establish the rightful recipient may be required.

Remove your passport and electronics before leaving the bag

Items over 2 meters long or over 30 kg, valuables, precision equipment, and other restricted goods are excluded. Keep important documents such as passports, cash, laptops, tablets, and cameras with you. The common official guidance also lists strollers, bicycles, cardboard boxes, and liquids in containers such as plastic bottles as unacceptable. Even if you think the bag contains only clothes, recheck for water bottles and electronics.

Delivery to a hotel is separate from leaving luggage at the station and collecting it at the same counter. Do not confuse delivery prices with storage prices; first identify the service your itinerary needs.

3 Minute Travel’s advice

For an overnight trip nearby, check whether the hotel can store luggage → the actual number of bags → your return time to Hakata, in that order. When using Crosta, include next-day collection in the calculation, and separately pack your passport, cash, electronics, and overnight essentials. A backup for full storage counters can reduce the chance of rearranging your departure because of luggage.
