Osaka Winter Lights 2026: Different Dates for Midosuji and Nakanoshima

Originally published · Korean source last modified

For Osaka’s 2026 winter night views, check Midosuji and Nakanoshima dates separately. Midosuji Illumination was scheduled November 3–December 31, while the main OSAKA Hikari-Renaissance events in Nakanoshima ran December 11–25. Some Nakanoshima lights began in November, but the Central Public Hall projection mapping began in December.

This Midosuji winter-light photograph was taken December 16, 2023. It does not preview the 2026 design or on-site appearance.

Midosuji from November 3; Public Hall projections from December 11

Midosuji Illumination extended about 4 km from Hanshin-mae Intersection to Namba Nishiguchi Intersection. The 2026 theme was LINK—Light Moves the City, divided into five zones. All times below are local to Japan.

Program 2026 dates Lighting/screening hours
Midosuji Illumination November 3–December 31 Around 5 p.m.–1 a.m. the following day
Osaka City Hall façade lighting and Nakanoshima Illumination Street November 3–December 31 5 p.m.–1 a.m. the following day
Central Public Hall projection mapping December 11–25 17:30~21:30
Final showing planned to begin at 9:20 p.m.

OSAKA Hikari-Renaissance’s main area ran from around City Hall to Nakanoshima Park. The Public Hall projections were on the building’s east façade. November visitors could see the City Hall and tree-lined-street lights, but needed December 11–25 for the Public Hall projections too.

The overall festival end differs from individual lighting dates

The overall Festival of the Lights in Osaka 2026 period was November 3, 2026–January 31, 2027. However, only selected regional programs continued after January 1. This did not mean Midosuji and the listed Nakanoshima lights all continued through late January.

The official FAQ described admission as generally free, while noting that some regional programs might charge. Operation generally continued in rain, but individual programs could be canceled, so check notices for the visit date.

Start near your hotel, and see the Public Hall first

The organizer said any Midosuji Line station from Umeda to Namba gave access to the lighting route. Rather than walking the whole 4 km at once, choose a section that fits your accommodation and dinner plans.

Official building access to Central Public Hall was about five minutes from Exit 1 at Osaka Metro/Keihan Yodoyabashi or one minute from Exit 1 at Keihan Naniwabashi. These estimates reach the building; they do not include event-day viewing routes or queues.

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

To combine both areas December 11–25, consider the Public Hall projections, which ended at 9:30 p.m., before continuing along Midosuji. Lights lasting until 1 a.m. did not mean public transport also ran that late; check the final service to your accommodation separately. For November, focus on City Hall and the illuminated street instead of Public Hall projections.
