Nanzenin’s Temporary November 2026 Opening: Separate Garden and Dharma Hall Dates

Originally published · Korean source last modified

The original report announced a chance to revisit Nanzenin (南禅院) Garden within Kyoto’s Nanzenji in November. Closed for garden works, Nanzenin was to open temporarily November 1–30, 2026. Adult individual admission was JPY 500. The report summarized the autumn special-viewing notice listed October 5 on Nanzenji’s official announcements page.

Garden and Dharma Hall dates differ

Nanzenin Garden was to open throughout November, while Nanzenji’s Dharma Hall interior had special access November 16–29. The Dharma Hall was closed November 26 and paused viewing from noon–1 p.m. even on operating days. Check those differences before planning both.

Category 2026 special-opening period Individual admission
Nanzenin Garden November 1–30 Adults: JPY 500
High-school students: JPY 450
Elementary/junior-high students: JPY 350
Nanzenji Dharma Hall interior November 16–29
Except November 26
High-school students and older: JPY 500
Elementary/junior-high students: free

Dharma Hall hours were 9 a.m.–4 p.m. General temple guidance listed March–November hours of 8:40 a.m.–5 p.m., with admission ending 20 minutes before closing. However, the special notice did not give separate Nanzenin-specific hours, so check updated guidance before visiting rather than assuming those hours are confirmed for it.

JPY 500 was Nanzenin’s adult individual price, not an all-areas ticket including the Hojo Garden or Sanmon Gate. The announced Nanzenin period ended November 30; no plan for access from December onward was announced.

Walk from Keage Station

Nanzenin is a pond-stroll garden surrounded by trees. Nanzenji’s official guidance gives about ten minutes on foot from Keage Station on the subway Tozai Line to the temple. The grounds include steps and slopes, so allow extra time. This is an opening-schedule report, not a guarantee of peak leaves on a particular day.

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

For both garden and Dharma Hall, choose November 16–25 or 27–29 and avoid the hall’s lunchtime pause. For the garden alone, the full November opening period was available. Recheck official dates and operation before departure.
