As of the original October 18 check, reservations had not opened. October 20 was the opening date, not a reservation deadline. Choose a visit time for your travel date and keep the confirmation email after booking.

1. Check the special period and fees

Reservations begin October 20, 2026, 9 a.m., Japan time

Adult JPY 1,500
Elementary/junior-high/high-school students JPY 800

These amounts were the special autumn-viewing prices, separate from regular admission at other times. Official guidance said ordinary visits outside this period did not require reservations.

The Kyoto City Tourism Association said same-day reservations were possible if spaces remained. That did not mean walk-in admission without a booking. Even on the day, check for an available reservation time.

2. Prepare the confirmation email and allow about an hour

After booking, a confirmation email contained the reservation details. At reception, show that email or a printed copy. Check its date, time, and party size beforehand so it is easy to locate.

Cancellation instructions were also in the email. Changing the date, time, or party size required canceling and applying again. Choosing the itinerary and companions first could reduce changes.

The temple asked visitors to keep viewing to about one hour. That was its requested duration. Prolonged photography and organized photo sessions were prohibited. Plan around the reservation time and onward travel.

3. The parking lot closes; include the walk

Enkoji’s parking lot was closed during the special-viewing period. The temple directed drivers to nearby paid parking. For public transport, the tourism association gave these two options.

  • Kyoto city bus route 5: Alight at Ichijoji Sagarimatsucho (一乗寺下り松町), then walk about ten minutes.
  • Eizan Railway Eizan Line: Alight at Ichijoji (一乗寺), then walk about 15 minutes.

Those estimates cover only the walk from the stop or station to the temple. Add travel from your accommodation, transfers, and waiting time to arrive for the reservation.

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

Set the travel date and route first, then check the reservation screen from October 20. Same-day booking depended on vacancies, so a specific must-visit day was better planned with an advance time slot.

Include the special fee, approximately one-hour stay, and walk from transport. Prepare the confirmation email and avoid planning on extended photography or temple parking, making onward travel easier.
