The image was created from a 2011 archive photograph of Canal City Hakata’s exterior. It does not show the new Moomin shop interior, current store, or signage. Original: ぱちょぴ (pacyopi), Wikimedia Commons , CC BY-SA 3.0 . The edited image carries the same license.

For character shopping in Fukuoka from November, the original introduced MOOMIN SHOP FUKUOKA on Canal City OPA Center Walk B1 as another candidate. The operator announced Wednesday, October 28, 2026 as opening day, with Moomin’s official store page and Canal City OPA giving the same date. At the October 3 check, that was 25 days away. It was a permanent shop intended for visits beyond opening, so location, sample prices, and use conditions mattered for the travel date.

Another Moomin shopping stop
inside Canal City

This was a shop in existing Canal City OPA, not a new mall building. Plans described about 28 tsubo of space, around 1,300 products across kitchenware, interiors, fashion, cosmetics, stationery, and food, plus two photo spots. These were pre-opening plans, not a firsthand visit or stock observation.

ANNOUNCED OPENING 10.28 Wednesday in 2026; 25 days after the October 3 reference
CANAL CITY OPA B1F Center Walk B1; published hours 10 a.m.–9 p.m.

1. Mark Center Walk B1 for a November itinerary

Official information checked October 3, 2026
Official store name MOOMIN SHOP FUKUOKA
Planned opening Wednesday, October 28, 2026
Location Canal City OPA Center Walk B1F
福岡県福岡市博多区住吉1-2-22
Published hours 10:00~21:00
Recheck date-specific changes and closures before leaving

Do not confuse this with an East Building project or another new shopping mall. The report concerned a permanent shop in existing Canal City OPA Center Walk. No end date was announced. It was more useful as a shopping addition to an existing November-or-later trip than a reason to travel for a late-October limited gift.

2. Compare small-item examples from JPY 1,650–2,200

These were tax-inclusive examples from the operator’s October 2 release, not discounts, lowest-price guarantees, or visit-day stock. They were budgeting examples, not prices for all roughly 1,300 items.

Operator’s product examples, all tax included
Tote bag JPY 2,200
Mug JPY 1,870
Pouch JPY 1,760
Mascot JPY 1,650
Distinguish a product introduced for Fukuoka from a Fukuoka exclusive

The mug was announced for simultaneous release across Moomin shops. Do not assume every item featured here was available only in Fukuoka; check each product’s sales scope.

Two photo spots were planned too

These were part of the official opening plan. Published interior images were renderings, not completed on-site photographs or verified photography routes.

No telephone orders or telephone holds in the source guidance

The official shop page said it did not accept phone orders or telephone reservations to hold products. Do not change an itinerary on the assumption of securing a particular item.

3. About three minutes from Kushida-jinja-mae

Canal City OPA’s official access gave about three minutes on foot from Nanakuma Line Kushida-jinja-mae, about ten minutes each from JR Hakata and subway Nakasu-Kawabata, and seven minutes from Gion. These were estimates to the facility, not guaranteed total times from station gates to the B1 shop, including walking and waiting.

  • Save OPA Center Walk B1F, not just Canal City.
  • Choose the arrival station, then consult OPA’s official access map. Bags or rain can change the practical walking time.
  • Recheck the published 10 a.m.–9 p.m. hours and visit-day closure/crowding notices before leaving.

4. Opening-day timed entry is not the ordinary November rule

A separate entry-ticket system applied October 28

The notice gave ticket distribution from 9–10 a.m. at the B1 entrance between Donguri Republic and SAC’S BAR ANOTHER LOUNGE, then in front of the shop after 10 a.m. Entry times could not be chosen, with one ticket and one admission per person. No ticket distribution was planned from October 29, but crowding could still trigger entry controls.

Opening-day tickets differed from ordinary November visits. There was no reason to assume a daily morning ticket requirement, but immediate entry was not guaranteed either; check the day’s crowd notice.

5. Confirm payment and tax-free arrangements separately

The checked shop/opening information did not state a restriction on South Korean nationality or overseas residence. That alone did not establish every entry or payment condition. It was an ordinary shop-opening report, not a verified departure-specific flight discount or foreign-visitor coupon.

Korean-language information/service: unconfirmed

The official material did not establish Korean staff assistance or product explanations. Preparing the product name or official product screen could help with questions; no English service is promised either.

Overseas-issued cards: unconfirmed

Shop-specific overseas brands and approval restrictions were unverified. A payment accepted elsewhere in the facility or another store was not automatically established here.

Tax-free and passport procedures: unconfirmed

This shop’s tax-free operation, process, and passport requirements were not established. The table used announced tax-inclusive prices without assuming tax-free treatment.

  • Check the official page for actual operation on the intended day.
  • Separate crowd-control notices from each item’s sales scope and stock.
  • Prepare alternative products given the no-phone-order/no-phone-hold guidance.
  • Confirm payment and tax-free eligibility before purchasing, and check the budget still works without a tax-free reduction.

EDITOR'S NOTE · EVERYDAY TRIP

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

Add it when already planning Canal City

For Moomin fans shopping at Canal City, the B1 shop could fit the same route. Combining nearby Kushida Shrine and shopping was a location-based option. Without interest in the products, there was no need to move accommodation or the main day’s route for one store.

Choose the date for the trip’s purpose rather than opening day

Opening day had timed-entry and crowd variables. For relaxed browsing rather than opening atmosphere, add it to an existing November trip and recheck entry notices. Compare total trip costs before advancing flights or accommodation for a gift.

Set a budget that works even if your first-choice item is absent

With no phone holds and variable stock, a tax-inclusive budget for one or two small items plus alternatives could prevent overspending. Check overlap with shopping in other cities for products such as the all-shop mug, and do not subtract an unconfirmed tax-free amount.
