Kyushu recovery discounts: the original September 15, 2026 prefecture and booking update — original source image 1

For travelers waiting for autumn accommodation after hearing about Kyushu support, the original report emphasized distinguishing which prefecture and which seller would handle the booking . At the September 15, 2026 check, some Kumamoto and Nagasaki online sales had begun, and Oita had published seller-specific dates. Saga explicitly included visitors to Japan. However, it was a reduction on qualifying accommodation/travel products, not a blanket cash payment to travelers .

This followed the September 8 report with newly confirmed sales schedules. Where the national summary and prefectural details differed, the more detailed prefectural announcement was also shown. All dates/times were Japan Standard Time, also used in South Korea.

STAY October–December Start dates and sales windows varied by region and seller

1. What was the Kyushu support?

The official name was Kyushu Recovery Support Discount, 九州ふっこう応援割 . The Japan Tourism Agency described support for travel/accommodation products of at least one night to restore Kyushu tourism after the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake. This was not a procedure for paying full price at any hotel and later claiming government cash back. Eligible products and application methods were determined by participating hotels, agencies, and online booking sites.

Caps were per person per trip

The agency listed JPY 20,000 for accommodation-only or one-night transport-inclusive products, JPY 30,000 for transport-inclusive products of two nights or more, and JPY 35,000 for touring products with accommodation in at least two prefectures. Two accommodation-only nights did not mean JPY 20,000 twice. Separately purchased flights and hotels did not automatically form one transport-inclusive product.

2. Could international visitors qualify?

Officially confirmed Saga: visitors to Japan included

Saga’s September 11 release expressly included both travelers residing in Japan and visitors to Japan. International visitors fell within that category, but still had to satisfy a participating seller’s eligible product and booking conditions.

Distinguish the scope Not automatic throughout Kyushu

The other reviewed prefectural public texts did not fully establish overseas-resident booking access, passport procedures, or application through another-language site. Neither exclusion based simply on nationality nor universal availability across Kyushu could be inferred from Saga’s rule.

Using a flight from South Korea was not itself the program’s benefit condition, nor did finding the same hotel on a translated booking site qualify it. Rakuten’s information required membership and said identity checking or a certificate of use might be needed at check-in. However, overseas-card approval, overseas address/phone registration, same-coupon access through another-language service, and passport-only proof needed separate confirmation with the seller and hotel. Do not misstate account information or residence.

3. What had each of seven prefectures confirmed?

Kumamoto · 60%

Sales began with ready operators from September 15 at 10:00, for nights October 1–December 25. Existing reservations were excluded and sales ended at the budget cap. The official feature site listed participating hotels and travel agencies.

Nagasaki · 50%

Advance Jalan/Rakuten sales began September 15 at 10:00, initially for October 1 check-in through December 1 checkout. Direct hotel sales were planned September 28; other agencies and online sellers would start sequentially when ready from September 30.

Saga · 50%

Online sellers were to begin September 24 and agencies October 2, sequentially as ready, for October 1 check-in–December 26 checkout. Visitors to Japan were included. Applications before the sales opening were excluded; sales ended when funds ran out.

Oita · basic rate 50%

Oita’s September 15 release separated online sales at noon September 25, agencies October 9, and direct accommodation October 16. Eligible-stay start dates also depended on the route; see the separate explanation below.

Fukuoka · 50%

The agency’s table updated September 15 had not announced booking starts or regional stay windows. It was not evidence that Hakata or Tenjin rooms were already selling at discounted rates.

Miyazaki · basic rate up to 50%

A September 15 addition scheduled Jalan/Rakuten sales for September 25 at 10:00. Direct accommodation and agencies were to start sequentially from September 28, for nights October 1–December 25. Prelaunch reservations, business purposes, and publicly funded business travel were excluded. Foreign-booking details needed seller confirmation.

Kagoshima · 60%

The agency listed a common 60% rate but had not announced booking starts or stay dates in the same table. A stated rate was distinct from actual bookability.

“Unannounced” refers to the agency table checked September 15, not a claim that no later notice exists. Miyazaki’s addition was reflected just before publication. The overall December 25 endpoint did not mean every prefecture and seller could take bookings until then.

Miyazaki’s official campaign site was scheduled for release around 15:00 on September 16. Eligible multi-prefecture products including Kumamoto or Kagoshima were described as up to 60%, not automatically created by combining independent hotel bookings. Miyazaki Prefecture’s official September 15 announcement provided channel-specific conditions. Original check: September 15, 2026.

4. Beppu/Yufuin: Oita start dates depended on the booking route

ONLINE Bookings from September 25 at 12:00

The prefecture named Rakuten Travel, Jalan.net, Yahoo! Travel, and Ikyu.com as online operators, with nights October 1–December 25 eligible. Only their qualifying products, not all rooms, were covered.

TRAVEL AGENCY Booking and stays from October 9

This channel involved participating travel agencies with offices inside Oita. Both booking and eligible stays began October 9, with stays ending December 25.

DIRECT BOOKING Booking and stays from October 16

For participating hotels/ryokan, both booking and eligible stays began October 16 through December 25. Waiting for direct sales might not suit an early-October trip.

The agency summary still said late September, while the Oita page body and its September 15 announcement document gave these dates. The page-header update remained September 3, so the source did not dismiss the body based on that date alone. Oita described 60% for qualifying touring products including Kumamoto or Kagoshima accommodation; independently booking two hotels did not automatically qualify.

5. December Nagasaki stays differed from the advance-sale coupon

The Nagasaki advance-online booking window was September 15 at 10:00–November 29 at 23:59 , with stays from October 1 check-in through December 1 checkout . Sales could end sooner if funds ran out. The official FAQ scheduled sales for stays from December 1 through Jalan/Rakuten from mid-November onward , without a confirmed exact reopening time in the source.

By contrast, direct accommodation from September 28 and other agencies/online sellers from September 30 were planned for nights October 1–December 25. For December travel, the actual channel’s stay window mattered more than a “sales start today” headline.

6. Illustrative savings

The following used official rates and the accommodation-only JPY 20,000 cap as examples per person per trip , not actual selling prices or guaranteed quotes. Eligible amounts and excluded costs depended on the product.

JPY 20,000 product

50% area: JPY 10,000 discount, JPY 10,000 remaining. 60% area: JPY 12,000 discount, JPY 8,000 remaining.

JPY 50,000 product

Both 50% and 60% calculations exceed the accommodation-only cap, giving a maximum JPY 20,000 discount and at least JPY 30,000 remaining.

Compare the final payment including taxes, meals, options, transport, and combination rules. Traveling farther for a higher percentage could increase total costs and time.

7. Do not cancel an existing booking first

No automatic retroactive reduction

Kumamoto, Saga, and Nagasaki explicitly excluded reservations preceding sales. Other regions also needed condition checks. Before canceling, confirm new eligible-product stock, personal eligibility, and the existing cancellation fee. The same room was not guaranteed again.

  • Describe your actual overseas residence and visitor status, then ask if the product is usable.
  • Distinguish participating property, booking route, sales opening, and stay window.
  • Check the actual reduction on the final booking screen, not merely coupon acquisition.
  • Ask the seller about passport/identity documents and companion/child conditions.
  • Check overseas cards, phone, membership and language support; do not rush a nonrefundable payment with unclear conditions.
  • Compare the old cancellation charge, new terms, and actual room availability.
  • Allow a budget without the reduction in case funds end or conditions change.

8. Official booking information and contacts

The source referred to Kumamoto’s participating-hotel/agency list and Nagasaki Tabinet’s Jalan/Rakuten links. Saga’s feature site was planned for about 17:00 on September 18; Oita’s dedicated site was planned September 18. An unavailable link was no reason to give personal data to an unofficial application form.

Official contact numbers were Kumamoto 0800-111-9449, 09:30–17:30; Nagasaki 050-1732-4652, weekdays 09:00–17:00; Saga 050-1732-4649, weekdays 09:30–17:30; and Oita 050-1732-4651, scheduled to open September 18, 09:30–17:30 including weekends. Language assistance and international dialing availability were not established. Program information desks did not necessarily take accommodation reservations.

EDITOR'S NOTE · EVERYDAY TRIP

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

The following is trip-planning analysis using reported conditions, not a firsthand application/stay.

For Beppu/Yufuin, work backward from the stay date

Oita’s available booking routes differed between early October and later October. Choose actual stay dates first and compare only supporting channels; direct booking was not necessarily better in this program.

An existing booking’s good conditions have value

Do not sacrifice location, included meals, or free cancellation for a percentage alone. Add cancellation and extra transport to the new discounted total and compare on equal terms.

Check overseas eligibility before paying

Saga’s inclusion of inbound visitors was useful official evidence. Elsewhere, confirm actual residence, overseas card, and passport requirements with the seller. Saving the response and booking terms could help if the explanation changed at the property.

Do not let the support determine the route

Expanding a short Fukuoka trip across several prefectures just for discounts could add fatigue and fares. Look for suitable products where you wanted to go, with affordable costs and cancellation terms even without support.
